This was a short competition entry for a large area (1700 ha) of land near one of China's major port cities. Divided by a major highway and criss-crossed with utility easements and existing agricultural canals, the challenge was to come up with a compelling plan that preserved some existing villages and natural elements, as well as celebrated the canals. Several schemes were created; at clients direction the scheme shown here was chosen for further development (an alternative is shown below). Densities evolved through discussion.
